Wrap Up

The end of this week was American History and we will learn some more about our President's on Monday.  We discussed a lot about the American Flag.  We learned why we have 50 stars and what the colors mean.  In art I had the students draw their own depictions...some where very realistic while others were a little abstract!!

We also learned a little about the Statue of Liberty on Thursday.  We thought she was pretty neat!  We watercolored a background scene for her.  This is an example from one of my three year olds.  When dry, we glued our Statue of Liberty on top!

We also completed a worksheet where the students had to color land and water on the picture of the globe, color the flag and draw a line from the American Flag to the United States.  It totally slipped my mind where I got this, so if it's yours, please email me and I will give you due credit!

We also enjoyed our sensory table!  It had blue rice and letter beads, blue and red feathers, red crinkle paper and red, white and blue pom poms.  They loved it :)

Some of our friends are working on sight words! This is a big deal for us in Pre-K and the kids LOVE reading!  It's so cute to see them love school...this is why I love this age :)  The kiddos doing sight words work in their own individual book at their own pace, so even if they are in the same group, they might be doing different words.  They work on a word a day, usually two words a week.  The worksheet requires them to write the word three times, which is great to assess handwriting.  They also find the word in different blocks and have to highlight the words in a sentence.

Although we have school, I am very excited about our President's day activities!
Be sure to check back to check them out!
Have a great weekend,
Miss Danielle

My favorite part of the classroom...

Drumroll Please...my favorite part of my classroom is...
my sensory tub!  Any other preschool and pre-k teachers love this???

I have a total of three sensory tubs in my classroom.  This one stays the same all week and it usually the easiest to clean up.  It is open during morning "free play" and morning centers and it also correlates to the theme.  It was just changed today to reflect our American History/ Presidential theme, so I put in white rice, red crinkly paper, red cups, blue feathers and red, white and blue pom poms.

My other two sensory tubs are big clear tubs with lids.  I usually put more messy or wet things in my clear sensory tubs like the water table, sand, rice, etc.  The reason I do this is because it's easier to clean because I can just sweep up around it.  My blue table is on a carpet and is used more frequently.

I wanted to post some of my other sensory tubs just to get your juices flowing.

Ice Cream Sensory Tub

The bottom has pastel beads, multi-colored small and large pom poms and real ice cream cones!  Yummy :)

Dinosaur Sensory Tub
This was our dinosaur sensory tub which we will be using in two weeks for our dinosaur theme!  I'm not sure if your school is allowed to use food, but the brown "stuff" is brown sugar which is fun for the kids to mold and dig through.  I made the trees and added rocks and dinosaurs.  This was definitely a hit for the kids!

Orbeez Sensory Tub

This was our Orbeez Sensory Tub.  If you've never played with Orbeez, you are  missing out!  They are these tiny water filled "beads" that expand in the water.  They also bounce, but I don't tell my students that!

More to come! Enjoy and Happy Teaching,

Miss Danielle

Happy Valentines Day!

Hello Blogging World! and Happy Valentine's Day!

This is the first post that will hopefully turn in to many more for me!  My name is Danielle Danver and I am a pre-k teacher of 3, 4 and 5 year olds in a private childcare located in Pennsylvania.  I am blessed to have such a fun job as well as a very well behaved, smart and loving classroom of kids!  My assistant teachers are also great...this year we have a class full of kids you wish would stay forever.

Today we had a cupcake party!  Can you say yum...?!  We had parents bake cupcakes and bring in icing, sprinkles, food coloring and many other goodies.  The kids loved decorating their cupcakes, although they did not use as much icing as I would have thought.  We passed out our valentines, which took quite a while with 25 kiddos but they had so much fun doing it!

Since I have a three month old baby boy that also attends my childcare (in the baby room, of course), he obviously had to make his own valentine's.  Thanks to pinterest this is how they turned out...
I think they are cute but I might be a little biased!!

Stayed tuned for more posts, updates and pictures from my Pre-K classroom!

Thanks for Reading and Happy Teaching,
Danielle
